Son’s Sudden Death Spurs Kitchener Woman to Help

Mother Wanted to do Something to Save Other Families from Heartache


Elizabeth Heald helped found Kawasaki Disease Canada after her six-year-old son Dylan died suddenly of the disease. Dylan didn’t have the usual symptoms of the disease.

“Our seemingly perfectly healthy sixyear-old son just died, literally dropped dead of a heart attack,” said the Kitchener woman.

An autopsy later discovered the cause was Kawasaki disease, which primarily affects young children and causes inflammation of blood vessels throughout the body, including those that supply blood to the heart.
